Tatsuya is a freelance journalist/editor/copywriter who has been working in the industry for more than 40 years. He started his career at Woman’s Wear Daily Japan but quit there in the 4th year as it was “too posh” and then went “on the road” in the US and Mexico for a few months when he was in his mid-20s. Became a freelance after coming back to Tokyo, and he has been working for various magazines and advertisements.
For magazines, he mainly worked on special overseas feature articles about culture, people and travel. He has visited over 50 different countries so far and worked in over 20 countries.
His clients were Edge magazine, Playboy, GQ, Esquire, The Face, Number, Brutus, Tarzan,Popeye, Free & Easy, Marie Claire, Elle, Figaro, Alsur (Nicos gold card magazine),Impression (American Express magazine), Skyward and Winds (Japan Airline inflightmagazine), Tsubasa no Oukoku (All Nippon Airlines inflight magazine), Gold ( nightclub ),Wave(shopping complex), Aquascutum, Ozwald Boateng, Pia and Volkswagen etc.
He also interviewed a variety of people, from Lauren Bacall to Gary Oldman, from Sting to Chet Baker, from Jimmy Lai (founder of Hong Kong’s Apple Daily) to Bruce Reynolds (mastermind of Great Train Robbery).
His first book was published in 2016, titled ‘Imin no Uta (= immigrant song/poem)’, a non-fiction about Japanese-Brazilian society in Japan.
